RAWL (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2mT4HYs9_5E)
Philly free jazz trio featuring pioneering free music saxophonist Jack Wright, percussionist Ben Bennett, bassist Evan Lipson (Satanized, Normal Love) and guitarist Zach Darrup land in Toronto for the first time. Though these musicians have played together over the years in various duo & trio arrangements RAWL is the first time we see all four together. The quartet buzzes with a constant chatter, saxophone notes chirp on top of distorted guitar textures, while meandering bass patterns keep the loose structures together. Bennett adds his classic percussive flourishes, squeaks and clatters, almost mimicking or conversing with Wright in his own language. The band moves from sleepy careful passages to boisterous cacophony, while still maintaining a feeling of playful lightness.

NAOMI MCCARROLL-BUTLER (http://naomimccb.com)
Naomi McCarroll-Butler is a saxophonist, clarinetist, and instrument maker from Toronto. She is interested the elegance of the overtone series, breathwork in the unique somatic journey of trans and gender-non-conforming people, and the creation of trance environments through drone, repetition and fluid tuning systems.

UNGUENT (https://refulgentsepulchre.bandcamp.com/.../simulation-of...)
Philly based modular synth wizard Unguent returns to Toronto after 10 years! Percussive burbling electronics skitter from speaker to speaker with bat like squeaks. What sounds like being inside a microwave popcorn bag complete with distorted waves slowly cooking each new born frequency. Analog glitched bouncing ball soundtracks for inside your broken pong arcade machine.

TONE is made possible through the support of the Toronto Arts Council, the Canada Council for the Arts, Long & McQuade, and Burdock Brewery.
