“For the last 15 years, Sufjan Stevens has mixed his own life history with fantastical images and stories of the ages—from the Bible, from Greek mythology, from American fables—inventing a new sort of 21st-century folklore along the way.”

Join us on Friday, March 2nd at 7:30pm for Spirit Songs: The Music of Sufjan Stevens, an evening of music and reflection on the spiritual dimension in the work of an indie singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who has been called one of the finest songwriters on the planet. Stevens' music blurs the lines between pop and folk, historical and contemporary, sacred and secular. He offers his listeners an account of how love, loss, faith, and history affect each of us.
A selection of Sufjan Stevens’ incredibly diverse body of work will be presented by a cross-genre group of musical contributors, including Josh Cole Quintet, Gestures, Decoration Day, Sheilagh McNab, Mark Ferrari, JP Kleiner and more.
Caleb Wellum (PhD, Cultural Studies), Ely Lyonblum (PhD, Music) and others will provide commentary on various aspects of the spirituality of Stevens' life, writing, and song.
This event is open to all. Beer and wine will be available to those of legal age. Artists will have merchandise available for purchase.
