Bassist Alex Fournier and I are starting a new ensemble instruction program at North Toronto Institute of Music (NTIM)!
The program is for students of music (ages 12-112) who are interested in developing their ears, learning to improvise in a group, read chord symbols and being introduced to diverse, mind-opening recordings. We'll be doing an open house with a duo performance and Q&A period on Saturday, October 21st.
The JazzLab is a new weekly band program at NTIM. Participants will learn how to improvise and play in a group by developing their musical ear, exploring rhythm section groove, learning standard repertoire and reading chord symbols. Beyond jazz, this knowledge is applicable in many styles of modern music (pop, rock, folk and many other traditions from around the world).
The program will take place for an hour on Saturdays and is open to all singers and instrumentalists with some experience playing who are 12 years old or above. As more students join, the price for everyone will go down (so invite all of your friends!) Students already studying at NTIM get half off the price of each weekly hour-long workshop.
Class of 9+ students: $25 / hour-long workshop (NTIM students: $12.50)
Class of 6 students: $36.50 / hour-long workshop (NTIM students: $18.25)
Class of 3 students: $73 / hour-long workshop (NTIM students : $36.50)
